The Dave Chamberlain Trio
This is the main group I lead as a guitarist. I'm very lucky be able to boast a lineup of Ross Stanley (piano) and Geoff Gascoyne (bass). The main thrust of the project is to showcase some of my favourite compositions from the canon of hard bop and more recent styles alongside original compositions and some older swing tunes. I've always loved the piano/guitar/bass trio from Nat Cole and Oscar Peterson through to Benny Green and beyond. I love the buoyancy of the rhythm guitar and the warm sonic blend of the three instruments. And I'm convinced that there's some unexplored ground in this format! Sometimes we are joined by one of our friends and become the Dave Chamberlain Trio Plus One.
100 Years Of Jazz In 99 Minutes
Presented by Richard Pite's 'Jazz Repertory Company', 100 Years Of Jazz In 99 Minutes Is a critically acclaimed show that spirits its audience away on an express journey from the origins of jazz and ragtime all the way through swing, bebop, modernism and postmodernism to reach it's present-day resting place. The personnel is made up of five multi-instrumentalists: Enrico Tomasso (trumpet, trombone, vocals), Pete Long (saxophone, clarinet, flute, trumpet), Nick Dawson (piano, clarinet, vocals), Dave Chamberlain (guitar, banjo, double bass, bass guitar, piano, side drum), Richard Pite (drums, sousaphone, double bass). Back To Basie Orchestra
Voted best British Big Band at British Jazz Awards 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009, the Back To Basie Orchestra is without doubt one of the UK's premier big bands and possibly Europe's leading exponent of the repertoire of Count Basie. Lead by trumpeter Paul Lacey, the band boasts some of the finest trumpet, trombone, saxophone and rhythm section players in the country. For more information please visit the Back To Basie website (see 'links' page on this site).
Graham Harvey Trio
Comprising Graham (piano - ex Incognito), Matt Skelton (drums) and myself, this is a unit that has honed its craft and developed an uncommon degree of musical empathy through spending several years on the road together as the rhythm trio behind singer Stacey Kent. The group gives performances on its own and behind various line-ups of singers and horn players. A recent recording is very much in the pipeline and due to be released soon in one format or another. Watch this space! In the meantime please feel free to have a look at one of the YouTube videos of this band (see the 'Videos' Page on this site).
Dave O'Higgins 'Judy Van Gelder Sessions'
I'm lucky to be amongst the musicians so far to have been involved with Dave O'Higgins' latest pet project, the 'Judy Van Gelder Sessions'. Basically Dave has converted his attic into a studio with the aim of recording himself playing with various assemblages of musicians. Please vists my 'Sounds' page to hear a track from one of the sessions (Creepin' includes Andrew McCormack on piano, Sebastiaan De Krom on drums and myself on bass). I'm sure you'll agree with me that Dave's newfound skills as a sound recordist stand up very favourably against his more familiar skills as a sax player! Tracks from these sessions will soon be available for download. Please keep checking back for details.
